Design sense.
Workshop discipline.
KERF Design is a Cape Town design and production workshop built around a simple belief: useful things can also be well made and beautifully finished.

A real workshop, run by real people.
KERF Design is led by Marcel du Plessis and Ian Gonsalves. Their shared background in printing, design and manufacturing shapes a practical way of working: understand how the item will be used, refine the details and make the result repeatable.
The workshop combines CO₂ laser cutting and engraving, fiber laser marking and small-format production to serve companies, agencies, designers, schools, makers and individuals.
Projects range from a single milestone object to repeat business orders with approved artwork, changing names or numbers and consistent finishing.

A kerf is the width of material removed by a saw blade, laser or other cutting tool as it passes through an object. The empty gap left behind determines fit, accuracy and the way two parts relate to one another.
That idea sits inside the KERF monogram: two material faces separated by a precise cut path. It is a reminder that good production depends on understanding both the object and the space the process creates.
